At a time when Antigua and Barbuda should be exploring how artificial intelligence can be used to advance national development, Gaston Browne has instead chosen to weaponize it for satire and misinformation.

Many citizens witnessed Harold Lovell, at age 70, arrive for nomination as a symbol of strength, vitality, and forward-thinking leadership—embracing sustainability as he rode in on a quad bike.

Few were surprised, however, by the Prime Minister’s response: an AI-generated video attempting to depict Mr. Lovell driving into a ditch. Browne posted it on his Facebook page. What was intended as ridicule only underscores a deeper national issue.

Ironically, the scenario being mocked reflects the lived reality of many Antiguans and Barbudans.

“Across the country, roads have deteriorated—eroded surfaces, exposed drains, and dangerous conditions that put both drivers and pedestrians at risk. This is not satire; this is daily life,” Lovell stated.

He continued: “It is time for leadership to get serious. Road safety is not a joke—it is one of the most pressing concerns facing our people today.”

With roads consistently ranking among the top issues for voters, the focus must shift from political gimmicks to real solutions.
