Foreign Minister Chet Greene attacked “white people” in a nasty fusillade against his independent opponent, Alan “Spotlight” Weston.

“Spotlight has been encouraged by some folks, from … the white power campaign,” Greene alleged on WTP FM 93.5, broadcast from Saint Paul Parish. Greene called Spotlight “Uncle Tom,” echoing an anonymous letter published a few days earlier. (Listen to the recording at the end of this article)

“Spotlight cannot be promoting a white power – ” interjected the host.

Greene cut in: “Allow me, I’m going to be brutally honest this morning as I bring to the fore the genesis of Spotlight’s campaign. He’s been funded by … white people in English Harbour,” Greene said, “a white power … I know those who think I should not say so, and maybe they think I’m fomenting race division …“

Greene then identified three men “and a few others” who he said “are financing Spotlight” because one wants to take control of the Sailing Academy for a business development.

“Uncle Tom Spotlight, that’s what he is, Uncle Tom, carrying a white man brief to fight against me,” said Greene.

There is a “controlling game being played” to claim “for the Brits,” or “the Italians.”

He rails against “white power” and twice again complains of “Uncle Tom.”

Greene vows that there will be no Uncle Tom sellouts of the National Sailing Academy on his “watch,” even though he has been on watch as the Saint Paul MP since Gaston Browne became prime minister.

Greene cribs from anonymous letter

It appears that Greene used language from an anonymous letter published April 20 in Antigua Newsroom, in which the writer complains of having “had a bugbear for years over the Caucasianisation of English Harbour.”

“I have passed Weston’s Campaign Office on Dockyard Drive a couple of times and a whitey is running things. And who is this person, who has bought for Weston?” the anonymous writer says.

Spotlight used to be active with the ABLP. Some reports say that Chet Greene was the recipient of campaign contributions from the same donor that Greene complains of being a “white” man.

Greene repeated the allegation in his interview, which can be heard below.
