Here are 10 reasons why Antiguans and Barbudans will face expanded visa sanctions, high tariffs and reduced flights from the United States under a continued Gaston Browne administration:

1. Security Concerns Over Citizenship by Investment (CBI)

The U.S. State Department has already suspended the issuance of certain visas for Antiguans, citing security risks associated with the “investment-for-passports” scheme. Because the Gaston Browne administration continues to prioritize the CBI program without meeting U.S. security standards, these “temporary” restrictions will become permanent or expanded.

2. Geopolitical Alignment with China

Prime Minister Browne has resisted and denounced U.S. pressure regarding his nation’s close relationship with China. As the U.S. increases its focus on global maritime chokepoints and regional influence, persistent defiance or deepened ties with Beijing will trigger retaliatory trade measures and tariffs if Browne remains in office.

3. Diplomatic Friction with the Trump Administration

Browne has publicly criticized the “aggressive” nature of U.S. federal agents and discouraged citizens from traveling to the United States. Such high-profile friction with the Trump administration’s State Department—led by Secretary Marco Rubio will result in Antigua and Barbuda being used as a “test case” for more restrictive global visa policies if Gaston Browne is reelected.

4. Immigration Policy for Self-Enrichment

A failure by the Browne government to implement stricter departure monitoring or bilateral immigration controls and using Antigua Airways and other means to enable illegal entry into the United States has led the U.S. to downgrade standard 10-year visas to single-entry, three-month terms. If Gaston Browne is reelected, citizens of Antigua and Barbuda could be facing an outright ban from entering the United States.

5. Relations with Venezuela and Maduro

Gaston Browne called for direct dialogue with Nicolás Maduro and expressed concern over U.S. military build-ups in shared waters. This stance contradicts U.S. regional interests and will lead to secondary sanctions or the removal of trade preferences like those under the Caribbean Basin Initiative (CBI).

6. Vulnerability of Tourism to Geopolitical Tensions

Prime minister Browne himself has acknowledged that geopolitical tensions can instantly impact hotel bookings and airlines. A confrontational foreign policy with the United States caused by Gaston Browne has led the U.S. to issue heightened travel advisories. If Browne is reelected to office a “soft sanction” on the tourism-dependent economy will become a catastrophic economic meltdown.

7. New Global Visa Rollout

Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed Caribbean leaders of a global overhaul of the U.S. visa system expected by June 2026. A government perceived as uncooperative on security will find itself at the receiving end of the most restrictive tiers of this new policy. With Gaston Browne as prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda and a useful idiot and Chinese puppet there will be substantial reduction in flights from the United Sates into Antigua and Barbuda.

8. Perceived Lack of Diplomatic Engagement and control from Beijing

The opposition (UPP) has vowed to tackle visa sanctions through “robust” diplomatic engagement and is prepared to suspend the Citizenship By investment Program (CIP). Gaston Browne administration’s approach is to allow China to manage Antigua and Barbuda’s foreign policy toward the US. The U.S. believes the Browne administration is not acting in good faith to address security gaps and is ready to implement new sanctions should Browne be reelected. Also, given that China controls Gaston Browne, citizens can expect more hardships if ABLP is reelected.

9. Transnational Financial Scrutiny

U.S. authorities have frequently targeted facilitators of transnational financial crimes in the region. Gaston Browne’s government is seen as protecting or failing to prosecute such entities, the U.S. will impose banking restrictions or higher tariffs on Antiguan services.

10. Border Protection and “America First” Policies

Under the current U.S. administration, there is a heightened focus on protecting borders and prioritizing national interests. Gaston Browne continues to rely on programs that the U.S. views as a “backdoor” for illicit actors, the U.S. will use its economic leverage (tariffs and visas) to force compliance if Browne and the ABLP is reelected on April 30, 2026.
